Practice Steadfastness

In the book of Psalms, the phrase “steadfast love” is used over 120 times.  What do you notice about the term steadfast love?  Where does it settle within your body, your heart, your soul?  Linger there with God and this beautiful term – steadfast love.  God’s steadfast love for you.  As you are, where you are, and as you have been, you are in God’s steadfast love.  I invite you to take a deep breath.  Enjoy this spaciousness in God.

In these over 120 verses, I find that alongside God’s steadfast love is a link to faithfulness.  Faithfulness that flows from God to us and faithfulness from us to God.  One example is from Psalms 26:3, where the Psalmist writes, “For your steadfast love is before my eyes, and I walk in faithfulness to You.”  God’s steadfast love can be seen.  And in turn, or alongside, we move towards God in faithfulness.

Paul provides an example of what might happen when we move towards God in faithfulness.  He writes to the early church in Corinth, and says, “A wide door for effective work has opened to me, and there are many adversaries” (I Corinthians 16:9).   Ever experienced this type of event in your life?  You have a great opportunity to offer some service into the world, and then something happens that makes it feel like there is great opposition to what you are called to do.  You are in good company, as this is what Paul is describing.

I invite you to consider that now is the time to practice steadfastness.  Go back to your original call or opportunity in God, review it with a trusted friend or a Spiritual Director, and if it is still your call, then be steadfast and walk in your faithfulness to God.

  1. Hi Kim! Nice to see you here. Good luck in your steadfast pursuit here!
For myself I believe I am steadfast in my love for God but not always His people. I always see my self in singular worship at God’s feet in heaven. I don’t always feel the connected ness here. But there are so many possible reason for that.
Great topic. It’s one that I will mull over for awhile. Peace my friend. Hope to see you soon. Kathy

  2. Love this thought of reflecting back to what we have been called to. It will keep us centered…and steadfast.
